Westport Works with Kentucky Ford Truck Plant to Offer Select CNG Trucks

Westport has contracted with Ford Motor Company in Louisville to upfit approximately 3,000 F250's and F350's annually with CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) systems. Westport operations will be located on Collins Lane near the Ford Truck plant on Chamberlain Lane. The project includes the installation of a CNG refueling site. Operations are slated to begin in April.

Lexington Reduces Diesel Emissions from
Waste-Hauling Fleet

   

The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government is nearing the completion of a year-long program to reduce diesel emissions from its waste-hauling fleet. The city is retrofitting 12 diesel refuse trucks with diesel particulate filters, reducing tail pipe emissions of particulate matter by nearly 90 percent. Particulate matter is linked to increased risk of stroke, heart attack, and other serious health problems. The program was funded by a $204,947 grant from the Kentucky Division for Air Quality. • 134 busses on the road (ThomasBuilt and IC). An additional 26 due in March
• 35 districts in program
• Best performers:

• Pike County 11.10 mpg
• Whitley County 9.88 mpg
• LaRue County 9.55 mpg
• Breathitt County 9.47 mpg
• Boone County 9.35 mpg
• Jefferson County 9.33 mpg

Many of these busses were put into operation in mid or late 2011 so figures are not reflective of twelve-month operations for all.

The final Request for Applications will go out to all school districts in late March 2012 for placement of final 50 busses in program.
