Thomas Built Buses and International (IC Bus) currently manufacture charge sustaining hybrid electric systems for diesel school buses. The factory
installed systems include Lithium Ion battery packs whose power is regenerated
by the braking system. Technology provides 20 - 30% reduction in emissions as
well as improved fuel economy estimated at nearly 30%.

09.16.09 - JCPS transportation managers were on hand Wed Sept 16 at Whayne Power Systems in Louisville to see and ride on the diesel hybrid electric school bus manufactured by Thomas Built Buses. The US EPA is providing funds for several Kentucky public school systems to purchase the diesel hybrid buses.
