UPS Installs Biodiesel Tanks for Ground Support Equipment

UPS installed two biodiesel storage tanks on the Worldport property in
Louisville, on Monday, April 11. The installation was part of UPS’s
goal to reduce their carbon footprint 20% by 2020. Bill Jacob, Vice
President of Air Group Ground Support Equipment and Jaime Vincent of
the Kentucky Soybean Association were on hand to talk with the
media.
The 30,000 and 5,000 gallon tanks will enable UPS to provide biodiesel
usage in ground support equipment.

Researchers Convert Campus Cooking Oil to
Biodiesel
Used
cooking oil from campus restaurants at the University of
Louisville is helping to fuel a campus shuttle bus in a
research-based recycling pilot program. Eric Berson,
assistant professor of chemical engineering, and
students at Speed School of Engineering are converting
spent oil from Sodexo Inc., UofL's campus food-service
provider, into biodiesel fuel that can be blended to
power a UofL-owned bus shuttling Belknap Campus
students. Initial tests have been successful in the
effort to turn a waste material into a useful product
and to demonstrate campus sustainability, Berson said.
The project also is an example of research at UofL's
Conn Center for Renewable Energy Research and
Environmental Stewardship.

2008 - A new 10,000-gallon biodiesel tank was
installed at the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s Division of
Equipment on Wilkinson Street in Frankfort. The site enabled state
diesel vehicle and equipment operators to obtain biodiesel. It was a
cooperative project of KYTC, the Finance and Administration Cabinet,
the Environmental and Public Protection Cabinet and Fleet One, the
fuel card service provider for Kentucky state government. KYTC
utilizes approximately 3,000 pieces of diesel-powered equipment.
