Propane Use in Kentucky
Crittenden Co. first district in Kentucky approved to operate
propane-fueled bus in KDE pilot program; purchase to be made
with capital outlay funds
Crittenden County school officials say the district has been
selected by the Kentucky Department of Education for a pilot
program for a propane-fueled school bus to be used in the
county. The school system already has a hybrid bus in operation.
The district would like to use the propane-fueled bus on one of
the three longest bus routes in the county. They think it could
be in commission by the beginning of the next school year.
Crittenden County is the only school district in the state that
has won approval to operate a propane-fueled bus as part of the
pilot program. The county’s operation of the bus will be used as
a model for technological and fiscal evaluation. School board
members have considered the idea of using an alternative fueled
bus since last fall. Since that time, officials have gathered
data on alternative fuel options. They looked at buses running
Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and propane.

First U.S. Department of Energy/ U.S. Department of
the Interior Alternative Fuel Partnership Launched
in Kentucky

04.27.2012 - “The Clean Cities partnership
is a great boost to the park and our staff,” said Park
Superintendent Patrick Reed. “We have incorporated
sustainable, green practices into almost every facet of our
operation. These new vehicles aid in our efforts to reduce
emissions and lower the carbon footprint of the park and to
show park visitors how, together, we can make a difference.”
The Clean Cities/National Park Initiative
replaces older vehicles with new, more efficient ones that
are less reliant on petroleum based fuels like gasoline and
diesel. Mammoth Cave National Park already had a strong
alternative fuel vehicle fleet, fueled by propane, ethanol,
bio-diesel, and electricity. The partnership with Clean
Cities replaced four aging propane buses (three 1990 models
and a 1977 model) with new ones, and also two gasoline
pickup trucks with two propane pickups, and one
gasoline-powered golf cart with a new electric powered GEM
(Global Electric Motorcar) vehicle.

PERC Expands Mower Incentive Program to Include
Conversion Mowers
WASHINGTON (July 16, 2012) — The Propane Education & Research
Council (PERC) has expanded its Propane Mower Incentive Program
to include a $500 incentive for mowers that have been converted
to run on propane after they have been purchased from the
original equipment manufacturer (OEM).
To be eligible, the conversion mower must be a commercial,
heavy-duty mower with less than 10 hours of operation, and it
must be a dedicated propane-fueled mower, not a dual-fueled
model. The mower conversion kit must meet Environmental
Protection Agency or California Air Resources Board
requirements, and it cannot void the OEM’s factory warranty on
the engine.
For a list of eligible mowers under the incentive program, and
requirements for conversion mowers, visit
http://www.autogasusa.org/mip/eligible-equipment/
PERC's original mower incentive program is still open to
applicants. It offers up to $1,000 to qualified buyers of new
propane-fueled mowers. Program participants of new and
conversion mowers must report to PERC on the usage and operation
of a mower for up to one year. A single applicant can receive
incentives for up to 10 mowers, including both new and
conversion mowers.
